How to Use the Crestron Touch Panel in a Trimodal Room

The purpose of this article is to explain the use of the Crestron Touch Panel in COL Trimodal rooms.

Important: Some newer rooms use Q-SYS Touch Panels. For information on operating these panels, visit this link for Trimodal rooms, or this link for non-Trimodal rooms.

Turning the System On or Off

To turn the Crestron system on:

If the screen is blank, touch it once to wake it up. Press the large "Press to Begin" () button on the Touch Panel to turn on the system. It may take several seconds; when the progress bar vanishes, the system is ready to use.

Note: In some cases, the Zoom interface may appear while the system is off. If this occurs, see "Switching Between AV and Zoom Meeting Controls" below.

To turn the Crestron system off:

While in AV mode, touch the "Shutdown" button at the bottom right of the screen, then touch "Yes". Do not touch the small illuminated button on the upper right of the touch panel, as this will not power down the system.

Switching Between AV and Zoom Meeting Controls

Touch panels with Zoom functionality have two display modes: AV mode, where controls for the room's audio and video equipment are displayed, and Zoom mode, where the controls for starting and managing a Zoom meeting are displayed. To change between these two modes, touch the white illuminated button on the right edge of the Touch Panel.

Note: Some Touch Panels require you to touch a small white "pill" at the top of the screen before this control will appear.

Selecting the Video Source

The Video Source menu is typically the first menu that appears when you turn the system on. It has buttons that allow you to select the video source that you want the projector to display, such as a laptop or the Blu-Ray player. If you want to share the Instruction Computer and a "Zoom" option is present, double-tap that option, then tap "Share Content", if that button appears. Most versions of this menu look like this:

Important: Do not use Zoom with the "Instructor PC" source option selected. This will cause audio reverberation and distortion.

The following other options are often present:

  1. Zoom: The recommended option. Makes all Zoom Room functionality available.
  2. Instructor PC: Presents screen of Instructor's Computer, bypassing Zoom functionality. (Not Recommended)
  3. Instructor HDMI: Presents screen of laptop, provided it is plugged in to HDMI cable.
  4. Instructor VGA: Obsolete. Do not use.

Adjusting the System Volume

To adjust the volume of the room speakers, look for the "Volume" button on the bottom of the screen while in AV mode. Touch this button, and then use the on-screen + and - buttons to adjust the volume up or down, or the mute button to mute. In some rooms, this may not appear to change the volume level; if so, use the volume slider in the Zoom application instead.
