In order to assist any users that may want to begin using their DePaul Windows computer from a remote location, Information Services has released a utility to all DePaul managed Windows computers.
Users on DePaul managed Windows computers will see an icon on their desktop, labeled Enable Remote Desktop. If you would like to enable your computer for remote access, you simply need to double-click on the file, accept the Windows security prompt, and it will configure your computer for remote desktop (RDP) access. Note that you need to only run this program on the computer being remoted into.
Once the program completes, it will add a new file onto your desktop called Remote Desktop Information.txt. You can open that new file by double-clicking on it, and should either write down the details or print it out and take it with you so you have the details you will need to access your computer. Below is a sample:
The name of this computer is IS-OPSVM03-V, and the IP address is 140.192.1.1. Please WRITE THIS DOWN, as you will need this to remote into from home, or to get support assistance in case of issues.
Remote Desktop has been enabled on the computer.
This username DPU\user5 has been added to the enabled Remote Desktop users. Please confirm your username is listed or you may not be able to access your computer from home!
Sleep and Hibernation have been disabled which will prevent your PC from sleeping.
If you need assistance, or encounter any issues, please reach out to the IS Helpdesk at helpdesk.depaul.edu.
Once you have configured your computer, you should now be able to access it from another Windows or Mac device.
