Instructions for changing or resetting your password
In order to reset your password without contacting the Help Desk, you must answer YES TO BOTH of these questions:
- Have you already registered for BlueKey MFA (multi-factor authentication)?
- Do you have access to two of your MFA verification methods (phone call, phone text, or Microsoft Authenticator app, secondary phone, Authenticator app on secondary device, backup email address, etc.)?
If YES TO BOTH, please visit this BlueKey password reset page and follow the steps to verify your identity and reset your password. View password reset instructions.
If NO TO EITHER, please contact the Help Desk at (312) 362-8765 or helpdesk@depaul.edu during Help Desk hours. Since the Help Desk is only available during limited times, please consider adding enough secure verification methods to be able to reset your own password.
New student or employee and need to create a new password?
After receiving an email message that your BlueKey account is ready, visit the link in the message to setup your BlueKey account. Follow the steps to setup your account.
Important: You must register for BlueKey multi-factor authentication before you can reset your own password. If you haven't registered for BlueKey multi-factor, you will need to contact the Help Desk to reset your password. View instructions to register here.
Self-Service Password Reset Instructions
In order to reset your password without contacting the Help Desk, you must answer YES TO BOTH of these questions:
- Have you already registered for BlueKey MFA (multi-factor authentication)?
- Do you have access to two of your MFA verification methods (phone call, phone text, or Microsoft Authenticator app, secondary phone, Authenticator app on secondary device, backup email address, etc.)?
1. Go to office365.depaul.edu or go.depaul.edu/passwordreset. For this tutorial, we will visit office365.depaul.edu, enter our BlueM@il email address (username@depaul.edu), and select "Forgot my Password" on the next page.
2. Select "Forgot my password" on this screen. Make sure to have your Microsoft Authenticator app available for this process (and the phone number and/or alternate email you provided when you registered for BlueKey multi-factor authentication).
3. Enter your User ID which is your BlueM@il email address (username@depaul.edu) and the characters that are displayed in the image.
4. Verification step 1. Verify your identity. You have a few different options to authenticate on this page. The first screen may or may not display an "alternate email" option depending on whether you set up that option.
5. Verification step 2. Use another one of the methods to confirm your identity. Again, this screen may or may not display an "alternate email" option depending on whether you set up that option.
Create a new password. Passwords must be a minimum of 16 characters in length and avoid common password terms or phrases. Consider using highly secure passphrase techniques when creating your unique DePaul password. When creating your password in the system, you will be notified if your password meets security requirements.
