BlueM@il: Accessing Your DePaul Email


Ways to connect to BlueM@il

DePaul employees have several options for accessing their BlueM@il (username@depaul.edu): the Outlook Desktop App, the Outlook Web App, or through an email app on a smartphone or other mobile device.

Should I use the Outlook Classic version or the New Outlook version with my BlueM@il?

The Classic version of Outlook will provide the best functionality for BlueM@il email accounts and resource email accounts. This recommendation may change in the future. DePaul students, faculty, and staff are welcome to use New Outlook, however you may be asked to revert back to Classic Outlook if you have issues.


Detailed BlueM@il Instructions and Configuration

For best compatibility, Information Services recommends using one of the following methods to access your DePaul BlueM@il email. If attempting to use a method not outlined here, you must ensure the client supports Modern Authentication. The latest versions of Outlook support Modern authentication.

Outlook client version recommendations:

Although some older Outlook versions are supported, we strongly recommend using the latest version available for your chosen platform.


Outlook on the Web (OWA)

  1. Navigate to bluemail.depaul.edu from an internet browser and log in with your DePaul BlueKey credentials (IE. username@depaul.edu and BlueKey password).  

Outlook Desktop

Windows: New Setup

  1. If Office 365 is not currently installed, you can navigate to the following link for more information: Instructions for Download and Installation
  2. After installation, open Outlook.
  3. Select 'Add Account'.
  4. Sign in with your BlueKey credentials (IE. username@depaul.edu and BlueKey password).
  5. This will automatically set up your Office 365 email account.

Windows: Re-add mailbox

  1. Open Control Panel
  2. Select ‘Mail’
  3. Select ‘Add’
  4. Input ‘Profile Name’ (example: ‘My DePaul Email’)
  5. Enter your ‘Name’
  6. Enter email address BlueKey@DePaul.edu
  7. Password will be your BlueKey@DePaul.edu credentials
  8. Select ‘Finish’
  9. You will be taken back to 'Mail' (Step 2.) 
  10. Click the drop-down under  'Always use this profile' 
  11. Select  'New Profile Name (example:'My DePaul Email')
  12. Click OK 

macOS: New Setup

  1. If Office 365 is not currently installed, you can navigate to the following link for more information:  Instructions for Download and Installation
  2. After installation, open Outlook.
  3. Follow the prompt to activate the license.
  4. Enter your username@depaul.edu email address and sign in to activate the license.
  5. From the open Outlook window, select Tools.
  6. Select Accounts.
  7. Select + 'Add New Account'.
  8. Sign in with your BlueKey credentials (IE. username@depaul.edu and BlueKey password).
  9. This will automatically set up your Office 365 email account.

macOS: Re-add mailbox 

  1. Open the Outlook client
  2. Select ‘Tools’ at top of the screen
  3. Select ‘Accounts’
  4. Select minus icon to remove the previous account
  5. Select ‘Add new account’
  6. Enter BlueKey@DePaul.edu email address select ‘connect’
  7. Sign in with your BlueKey@DePaul.edu credentials
  8. Select ‘allow organization to manage device’ and select okay
  9. Select ‘Done’

Outlook Mobile

iOS: New Setup

  1. If you have not previously installed the Outlook client, you can navigate to the following link for the Apple app store from your mobile device: Apple App Store 
  2. After installation of "Microsoft Outlook," open the Outlook app.
  3. You will be prompted to 'Add Account'.
  4. Sign in with your BlueKey credentials (IE. username@depaul.edu and BlueKey password).
  5. This will automatically set up your Office 365 email account.

iOS: Re-add mailbox

  1. Open Outlook app
  2. Select the menu icon in the top left corner
  3. Select settings gear at the bottom left of the screen
  4. Under ‘Mail Accounts’ select previous mail account
  5. Scroll down and select ‘Delete Account’
  6. You will be redirected to ‘Add Account’
  7. Enter your BlueKey@DePaul.edu address and select ‘Sign in’
  8. Enter your BlueKey@DePaul.edu credentials 
  9. Proceed to add additional accounts later

Android: New Setup

  1. If you have not previously installed the Outlook client, you can navigate to the following link for the Google play store from your mobile device: Google Play Store 
  2. After installation of "Microsoft Outlook," open the Outlook app.
  3. You will be prompted to 'Add Account'.
  4. Sign in with your BlueKey credentials (IE. username@depaul.edu and BlueKey password).
  5. This will automatically set up your Office 365 email account.

Android: Re-add mailbox

  1. Open Outlook app
  2. Select the menu icon in the top left corner
  3. Remove previous mail account
  4. Click on Add Account
  5. Enter your BlueKey@DePaul.edu email and credentials
  6. Select 'Continue'
  7. Select 'Activate'
  8. Proceed to add additional accounts later

Tutorial Video for iOS and Android

Some DePaul users may experience issues accessing their BlueM@il (username@depaul.edu) email account on the Outlook mobile app. These instructions are for Apple and Android users. Although the procedure may be similar for other email clients and email apps, this tutorial is specifically for the Outlook mobile app.
