Cybersecurity: Tips for Working Securely from Home
- If you live with others, just as in the workplace be sure to lock your computer when you step away from it. (Windows – windows key/L, Macs Control+Command+Q).
- Secure your home wifi system with a strong password and be sure your router is encrypting traffic.
- Be sure your home router is up-to-date with patches and is using a strong, non-default password.
- Do not use a personal email address for DePaul business or communicating with your colleagues. A culture of using DePaul's email system will allow our community to quickly spot malicious spoofing attempts.
- If you suspect your DePaul device or password has been compromised, contact the DePaul Information Security team through the Help Desk at 312.362.8765.
- Never click an attachment you weren't expecting – check back with the sender to see if it's legitimate.
- Be especially alert to phishing messages warning you about your DePaul account. Check the sender email address to help determine its legitimacy. Forward the email to security@depaul.edu to help you verify the email or to report a phishing email.
- In a crisis like this pandemic threat actors commonly use this to take advantage of situations where people are searching for and sharing information relating to the crisis, by planting fake "information" links which lead to malicious pages. Please be especially cautious when seeking information on Covid19.
