iPrint IntelliPrint

Printing on Macs: Intel-based Apps

Overview

Users of iPrint IntelliPrint on Apple silicon Macs running macOS 26 Tahoe will begin seeing the following notification:

macOS Support Ending for Intel-based Apps notification

Support Ending for Intel-based Apps
This version of "Popup" includes a component that will not work with a future release of macOS.

What Does This Mean?

This notification is only a warning from Apple/macOS and can be dismissed. Printing will continue to work and is not broken.

The iPrint IntelliPrint "Popup" contains an Intel-based component that relies on Rosetta translation technology to run on Apple silicon Macs.

Apple has announced that support for Intel-based applications will be removed in a future version of macOS. Based on the notification, this component is expected to be incompatible with macOS 28, which is anticipated to be released in late 2027.

Academic Macs (DePaul-Owned Labs and Classrooms)

No action is required.

All DePaul-managed Academic Macs that support iPrint IntelliPrint printing are already configured appropriately.

Although users may still see the macOS warning, printing functionality is not affected.

Personal Macs

If you use a personal Mac with Apple silicon, such as an M1, M2, M3, M4, or newer processor, iPrint IntelliPrint requires Rosetta to run its Intel-based component.

Installing Rosetta (required on new Macs or macOS 27 upgrades)

If Rosetta is not already installed, macOS will automatically prompt you to install it when you launch iPrint IntelliPrint.

Example Rosetta installation prompt:

macOS Rosetta installation prompt

When prompted, click Install. You may be asked to enter your macOS username and password. Once the installation is complete, reopen iPrint IntelliPrint and continue printing normally.

If the installation prompt does not appear, you can install Rosetta manually:

  1. Open Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal).
  2. Enter the following command:
softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license
  1. Press Return.
  2. Enter your Mac administrator password if prompted.
  3. Wait for the installation to complete.
  4. Reopen iPrint IntelliPrint if necessary.

Note: If Rosetta is already installed, macOS will indicate that no installation is required.
