VPN Linux Installation Instructions

The Linux desktop is not listed as a part of Information Services supported workstation environments. Given the abundant number of operating system versions and configurations, there is limited support for Linux desktops.

I. Install the package from the command line interface:

a. Ubuntu or Debian

$ sudo dpkg -i ps-pulse-linux-<version>-64bit-installer.deb

b.  Fedora or Oracle Linux

$ sudo dnf intall ps-pulse-linux-<version>-installer.rpm

II. Check if the package was installed:

a.  Ubuntu or Debian

$ sudo dpkg -l | grep pulsesecure

b.  Fedora or Oracle Linux

$ sudo rpm -qa | grep pulsesecure

III. Launch Client

There are two configuration options for the VPN client, "Remote Access" or "Datacenter".  Details for these configuration options are listed below.

Remote Access

The "Remote Access" option creates a split VPN tunnel and gives your computer an IP address as if it was on the DePaul campus network.  Access to common DePaul services locked down to the campus network such as Port 22 (SSH), U/W Drives, Imagenow, etc. will be available when using this option.

To configure, select Pulse UI from the Applications menu.  Add a connection using the settings pictured below.

Datacenter

The "Datacenter" option creates a split VPN tunnel and gives your computer and IP address that grants special access to servers inside of the campus datacenters.  This form of access must explicitly be set up and configured by IS for you and will not work otherwise.  This access is generally reserved for server and application administrators to access and manage systems that reside in the campus datacenters.

To configure, select Pulse UI from the Applications menu.  Add a connection using the settings pictured below.
