Microsoft Office: Using Macros & Network Drives


If you receive errors when trying to interact with Microsoft Office files that incorporate macros and are located on network drives (e.g. 'W' or 'U' drives), try the following steps:

  1. Open Control Panel
    2. In Control Panel, locate or search for "Internet Options"
    3. In "Internet Options", select the "Security" tab
    4. Click on "Trusted sites"
    5. Click "Sites"
    6. Uncheck the checkbox labeled "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone"
    7. In the "Add this website to the zone" textbox, type, without quotation marks, "file://dpu.depaul.edu"
    8. Click "Add"
    9. Click "Close"
    10. From the "Security" tab, click "OK"
    11. Launch the Office app in question
    12. Try opening the file located on the W drive
