Port 22 (SSH) Access

Inbound access to Port 22 (SSH) from off campus networks is blocked on the DePaul network for security reasons to protect University data and resources.  However, port 22 (SSH) is not restricted between computers on campus or from the campus virtual lab.  Several methods for secure access are available to the campus user population and are listed below.  Questions about this security measure or the secure access methods below may be directed to the campus Helpdesk at helpdesk@depaul.edu, 312-362-8765, or the Helpdesk Website

Faculty/Staff Access:

Faculty and Staff that rely on SSH for remote access are recommended to use the "Remote Access VPN", campus virtual lab or the SSH Proxy Jump Host.  Connections from systems connected to the campus network are not restricted and do not require the above methods to be used.

Student Access:

Students are recommended to follow the instructions provided by their professor or course material for connecting to remote systems over SSH.  Students may use the campus virtual lab to connect to University resources over port 22 (SSH).  Popular clients such as Filezilla, Cyberduck and WinSCP are installed and available for use and do not require any special configurations.  The SSH Proxy Jump Host is also available to students but requires client configuration changes.  Connections from personally owned student computers connected to the campus network (such as Eduroam/WiFi) are not restricted and do not require the above methods to be used.

External Collaborator Access:

External collaborators such as vendors, visiting scholars, and Friends of DePaul should contact their University sponsor/contact or the campus Helpdesk to determine the best access method available.
