Remote Desktop for macOS: On-Campus Setup


Before You Start

Prepare On-Campus Computer

     Let’s setup your on-campus computer or the computer you wish to remote into, by visiting the Remote Desktop Google site. You can login to G Suite with your DePaul University email account (username@depaul.edu). Once you enter your DePaul email address, you’ll be redirected to the well-known DePaul single sign-on page, where you can enter your credentials. If you are asked to verify the account, just click thru and complete the process, then return to the Remote Desktop Google site.

Install Software

1. Once you have authenticated you’ll see the following screen:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2. Click on the download icon.

 

 

 

 

 

 

3. Follow the prompts to save the chromeremotedesktop.dmg file, then proceed to accept terms and install software.

 

 

 

 

 

 

4. Allow your browser to open the downloaded file.

 

 

 

 

 

 

5. Double-click and launch the installer Chrome Remote Desktop Host.pkg.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

6. Follow the prompts to complete installing the application. You will be prompted for approval and administrator credentials to install the software.

7. Now that the application is installed, you’ll need enter a name for the on-campus system, then click next.

 

 

 

 

 

 

8. Now, you need to enter a secure PIN code. You can leave the Help improve Chrome option unchecked, then click Start.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Configure Permissions

1. You will be prompted for administrator credentials to authorize the changes. You will also need to adjust your accessibility preferences to grant Chrome Remote Desktop permissions to inject input.

2. When accessibility menu is presented, you will need to unlock the menu and check mark the ChromeRemoteDesktopHost.app.

3. You will also be prompted to grant permissions to record the screen, this permission allows the screen mirroring for the off-campus computer.

4. When then Screen Recording menu is shown, unlock the menu and check ChromeRemoteDesktopHost.app.

5. Your on-campus computer should be all set now!

 

Important: Before you leave campus, make sure you logon to your on-campus mac and leave it locked. If you don’t leave the macOS system logged in and locked, you won’t be able to access it remotely. You also have to make sure the power settings are adjusted to prevent it from going to sleep, otherwise you won’t be able to access it remotely.

 

Connect from Off-Campus Computer

From your remote or off-campus computer, navigate to the Chrome Remote Desktop site. You can login to G Suite with your DePaul University email account (username@depaul.edu). Once you enter your DePaul email address, you’ll be redirected to the well-known DePaul single sign-on page, where you can enter your credentials. If you are asked to verify the account, just click thru and complete the process, then return to the Remote Desktop Google site.

1. You should be able to view your on-campus machine on the list of Remote Devices.

2. Click the On-Campus-macOS, and enter your PIN code.

3. You are now connected to your remote or on-campus computer!

4. To end your session, just expand the menu on the right-hand side by clicking on the arrow, then click Disconnect.
