What are the upgrade system requirements?

You need at least 4 GB of available disk space and memory for Windows, or 10 GB of disk space and 4 GB of memory for Macs. Additionally, your device needs to have either Windows 10 version 1803 or newer installed or one of the three most recent versions of macOS. Full system requirements are documented by Microsoft here: Microsoft Office 365 requirements

What is removed during the upgrade?

Existing Office applications (MSI-based versions) are removed (both 32-bit and 64-bit installations). This includes Project and Visio. Versions 2016 and older are typically MSI-based while 2019 and newer are not. Office components are removed to account for Microsoft's compatibility limitations between different Office versions and installer technologies, as described here: Supported scenarios for installing different versions of Office, Project, and Visio on the same computer

Will 32-bit Office applications still work after the upgrade?

The upgrade installs 64-bit Office. Project and Visio, for example, must also be 64-bit in order to co-exist with the main Office 365 suite. Other limitations of 32-bit applications, like add-ins, are described by Microsoft here: Microsoft Office 365 version comparison. If you are unsure if your software will continue working after the upgrade, please do not proceed.

Can I re-install Project/Visio after the upgrade with my current license?

If your license provides a Standard or Professional edition of Project/Visio 2019, Project/Visio 2019 can be re-installed. For licenses providing an older version of either product, if your license provides (active) Software Assurance, Project/Visio 2019 can be re-installed.

How are Office and Project/Visio activated?

The Office suite uses BlueKey for activation, while Project/Visio uses a DePaul-hosted activation service.

Does my location matter for activating Office and Project/Visio?

Because the Office suite uses BlueKey, you can activate it so long as you have an Internet connection. For Project/Visio, you need to connect to the DePaul network using the Remote Access VPN

How often do I need to be online or connected to the DePaul network to activate Office and Project/Visio?

The Office suite requires you to be online once every 30 days. For Project/Visio, you need to connect to the DePaul network every 180 days.

Will I be prompted to sign in to the main Office suite after upgrading?

If you are connected to the DePaul network, you are not prompted to sign into the main Office suite after you launch an application. If you are off-network, on the first launch, you are prompted to sign in with your BlueKey credentials. Subsequent launches do not require you to sign in.

Do I need to update Office or Project/Visio?

The Office suite and Project/Visio are configured to be updated automatically by Microsoft.
