How to Switch On the Projector in a COL Room

How to Switch On the Projector in a COL Room

The purpose of this article is to explain how to switch on the projection system and display the in-classroom Instructor’s PC in a Standard, Upgraded, or Tri-modal room.

Depending on the room you are in, projectors are controlled with one of two remotes, a Crestron touch panel, or a Q-SYS touch panel.

Standard or Upgraded Room, Epson Remote

To turn on the Epson projector, point the remote at the projector and press the button. The projector beeps once in response to the remote, and a status light on the projector begins to flash. The projector takes several seconds to fully turn on, during which time the brightness gradually increases. When the light stops flashing, the projector is ready to use.
To turn off the projector, press the button until the projector shows “Press to turn off”, then press again. The projector will turn off. If the projector does not respond to the second press, release the button for two seconds and then press again.

Standard or Upgraded Room, Panasonic Remote

To turn on the Panasonic projector, point the remote at the projector and press the /I button. A status light on the projector begins to flash in response to the remote. When the light stops flashing, the projector is ready to use. To turn off the projector, press the /I button until the projector asks for confirmation, then press /I again. The projector will turn off. If the projector does not respond to the second press, release the button for two seconds and then press again.

Upgraded or Tri-modal Room, Crestron Touch Panel

All Tri-modal rooms, and some Upgraded rooms, have a Crestron touch panel. This panel is used to control all room functions - the use of a remote control is not required or permitted in these rooms. To turn on the system in this room, first confirm that the touch panel is on. If the screen is black, touch it once to activate the panel. Press the large button on the display to begin the process of turning the system on. It may take several seconds to turn on the system.

Rooms which have integrated Zoom functionality require you to share the screen of the Instructor’s PC through Zoom. On the “Video” screen, press either the “Zoom” source button, or the “Zoom Out 1” button followed by the “Projector” button, depending on the room. Next, switch to the Zoom controls. To switch between the AV options and the Zoom sharing controls, press the button, which is either visible on the right side of the panel or by tapping the small white “pill” in the top center of the screen. Zoom may take a few moments to appear. If the “Sharing Content” screen does not automatically appear, press the blue “Share Content” button.

To turn off the projector, look for the “Shutdown button in the lower right corner of the AV options. If the AV options are not visible, press

When you are asked if you are certain you want to shut down the system, press Yes. The system then shuts down. This process may take several seconds.

Note: Do not press the button above the button. This will not power down the system.

Tri-modal Room, Q-SYS Touch Panel

Projectors in tri-modal with a Q-SYS Touch Panel are controlled in much the same way as Crestron rooms. To power the system up, touch the panel once to wake it up, then touch the blue  button at the bottom of the Touch Panel's screen. If you see nothing on the projector screen, be sure that the "Projector" mute selector on the right of the display reads "ACTIVE", not "MUTE". If "MUTE" displays, touch the selector once to change it to "ACTIVE" and activate the projector.

To power off the system, touch the red "End Lecture" button, then touch "Proceed".
