Fixes For Common Projector Issues

Fixes For Common Projector Issues

The purpose of this article is to explain some of the most common technical issues you may encounter when trying make the projector display your laptop's screen. As a reminder, content that does not display on the projector screen cannot be recorded by the COL System. This article will advise you how you can resolve the issue, or if you need to contact the Operations Center.

Applications Open on the Laptop Do Not Display on the Projector

HDMI and VGA ports on Microsoft Windows laptops have two modes: Duplicate and ExtendDuplicate is designed for connection to a projector, and mirrors all content on the laptop's integrated display onto the projector, as well as into COL. Extend is designed to allow an external monitor to be used as a second display, meaning that images may appear less blurry; content may be on either the laptop display or the external monitor, but not both. COL strongly recommends that you use the Duplicate mode when connected to the system.

To determine if a laptop is in Extend mode, open a window on the internal display. If the window does not also appear on the projector, but you continue to see your desktop background, the port is in Extend mode.

To change the port's mode, hold the key and press the P key once. A box appears with four port options: Computer screen onlyDuplicateExtend, and Projector screen only. Click Duplicate to place the port in this mode.

On Apple Macintosh Systems

Some MacBook systems incorporate a function called Display Mirroring, which functions similar to the previously discussed Duplicate and Extend modes.

To enable this mode, open the Mac's Control Center , and click Screen Mirroring , then click "Mirror Built-In Display".

The Projector Is Not On

Please reference this article for information on turning the projector on and off.

A "NO SIGNAL" Indication Is Displayed On The Projector

This message should disappear within a few seconds. If it does not:

  1. Ensure the Instruction PC and laptop (Where Applicable) are on.
  2. Ensure the cable is fully inserted into the laptop (Where Applicable).
  3. Ensure the port mode is not in "PC screen only" mode.
  4. If none of these suggestions resolved your issue, call the COL Operations Center.
