How To Start or Stop a COL Recording

Unlike recordings in Zoom or Panopto, COL recordings start and stop automatically with your lecture, meaning you do not need to open any applications on the computer or press any buttons to begin your recording. However, it is important that you observe certain “best practices” when conducting your lecture:

  1. Ensure you properly schedule the room for your lecture. COL recordings follow your schedule submissions to the University, as they are listed in the CollegeNET 25LIVE software. If you do not provide correct information to the University’s scheduling system and do not inform the COL Operations Center of your lecture, it may not be recorded.

  2. Do not make last-minute or mid-lecture changes, such as moving rooms, without contacting the COL Operations Center. You must do this even if you reported the change to scheduling and had it recorded in 25LIVE. If you move rooms or change lecture times without contacting the Operations Center, a portion or the entirety of your lecture may not be recorded.

  3. If you are certain that you will not lecture on a particular day and at a particular time, or if you would prefer that a planned lecture not be recorded, you may contact the Operations Center to request that a particular class's recording be blocked, rendering them unable to be viewed. Recordings that are blocked may be unblocked up to 7 days after the completion of the recording, after which point they are not recoverable.

  4. If personal or confidential information is inadvertently shown on the Instruction Computer or on a connected laptop, you should contact the COL Operations Center upon the conclusion of your lecture. We will block access to the recording until the affected portion can be removed. The A/V Mute button on the projector does not prevent the screen from being recorded by the COL system.
