While taking advantage of the free Azure for Students service, please review the helpful information below.

Azure Free Services - $100 Credit Usage Conditions

Your Azure for Students subscription comes with a renewable $100 credit. However, you can only renew this credit once per year. The credit renews on the anniversary of the registration date of your Azure for Students subscription. Students must remain associated with DePaul for the credit to renew. If you use your $100 credit before this date, you will not be able to renew it until then.

Please review the required conditions for free services (viewable under the Free Services detail from the Education hub of your Azure portal).

An example of Free Services that do not use the $100 credit under specific conditions include:

· Azure SQL Database - 250 GB free when 'Apply free offer' is selected (see below).

· Azure Database for MySQL - 750 hours/month of B1ms compute + 32 GB storage.

· Azure Database for PostgreSQL - Same as MySQL.

· App Service - 10 web, mobile, or API apps with 1 GB storage.

· Functions - 1 million requests/month.

· Blob Storage - 5 GB LRS.

· Cosmos DB - 400 RU/s and 5 GB storage.

· Virtual Network, Load Balancer, DNS - Basic tiers.

Conditions under which your $100 credit may be used include:

· Any usage beyond the free tier limits.

· Services not listed in the free tier (e.g., Virtual Machines, Premium Storage, advanced networking).

· Upgrading to higher compute tiers for databases or App Service.

 

If you’re unsure about a service’s free conditions, or want to ensure you are only using the credit you are expecting to use, keep an eye on Available Credits and costs for the month under Student offer details in your main Education Hub portal. Clicking on “View cost details” will take you to a more detailed Cost Management portal where you can see your cost by service, visualize costs, and much more.

 

Enabling Free Offers for Services for Azure for Students subscriptions

Some services may require you to enable “free offers” at the time of deployment to ensure services are free as listed and do not use your $100 credit. These will be shown to you during the deployment process, and it is important to use the “Apply offer” button or checkbox so your $100 credit is not charged.

An example is shown below at time of deployment for Azure SQL Database (Free Services > Explore all > Azure SQL Database > Create).
