Users of Pharos IntelliPrint on Apple Silicon (A or M Series) Macs running macOS 26 Tahoe will begin seeing the following macOS notification:
Support Ending for Intel-based Apps
This version of "Popup" includes a component that will not work with a future release of macOS. Learn how to update to an Apple silicon version.
This notification is only a warning from Apple/macOS and does not indicate that printing is currently broken.
The Pharos IntelliPrint client currently contains an Intel-based component that relies on Apple's Rosetta translation technology to run on Apple Silicon (M Series) Macs.
Apple has announced that support for Intel-based applications will eventually be removed in a future version of macOS. Based on the notification, this component is expected to be incompatible with macOS 28, which is anticipated to be released in late 2027.
At this time:
All DePaul-managed Academic Macs that support Pharos printing are already configured appropriately.
Although users will still see the macOS warning, printing functionality is not affected.
No action is required.
If you use a personal Mac with an Apple Silicon processor (A18, M1, M2, M3, M4, etc.), Pharos IntelliPrint will require Rosetta to run Intel-based components.
If Rosetta is not already installed, macOS may prompt you to install it automatically.
1. Open Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal).
2. Copy and paste the following command into Terminal:
|
softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license |
3. Press Return.
4. Enter your Mac administrator password if prompted.
5. Wait for the installation to complete.
6. Relaunch Pharos IntelliPrint if necessary.
To verify that Rosetta is installed, open Terminal and run:
| /usr/bin/pgrep oahd |
If a number is returned, Rosetta is installed and running correctly.
Note: If Rosetta is already installed, macOS will display a message indicating that no installation is required.
No. This notification is informational only. Pharos printing continues to function on supported versions of macOS.
Yes. The message can be dismissed and does not affect current printing functionality.
The current Pharos IntelliPrint client includes Intel-based software components. Apple is notifying users that support for these components will eventually be removed in a future macOS release.
No. Unless instructed otherwise by the Help Desk, no reinstallation is required.
